The Project

I am currently in the process of designing a note publishing system using a wiki-based app. My goal is to design a system to allow me to easily organize, reference and share the notes that I take when I’m at school. I believe a wiki is probably the best system for this, because wiki’s are designed to archive information and allow easy referencing between different subjects – wikipedia.org

Checklist

Develop a wiki-based site (investigate the major wiki software packages - mediawiki, dokuwiki, tikiwiki)

compare by overall features and also by what I need.

This is a comparison of the top 10 most popular wiki-site packages, http://www.wikimatrix.org/compare/DokuWiki+MediaWiki+TWiki+TikiWiki-CMS-Groupware+PmWiki+PhpWiki+Confluence+XWiki+MoinMoin+bitweaver

investigate the overall community support for the packages to see if there a well developed plug-in and skin libraries.

ensure Dreamhost hosting meets the necessary install requirements.

Enhance the site with a personalized skin/theme and features to allow publishing of multimedia.

uploading, hosting and converting of word documents and pdf files.

personalized skin needs to have great navigation and an extremely easy to read interface

multimedia support needs to be able to handle external media sources, like from Youtube.com or Vimeo.com

Develop an easy way that multiple note sources can be compiled into one. For instance, when two members of the same class publish notes with similar and different information. There needs to be a way for some outside user to digest the information easily, without going over both sets of information.

Where can you find this?

I am currently developing the system over on my sandbox sub-domain, @ http://sb.jeremysnotes.com

Project updates will come as the happen. I try to log everything to keep track of what I have done vs what I need to still complete.
